Astonishing to think that even when your article was published that John Woodvine was still living.

Lovely gentleman of a type that should once again become an aspiration for today's folk.

You might like The Racing Game (1979) - TV thrillers based on Dick Francis.

What's impressive is how much drama they get into 40 mins of telly with minimal resources.

It can't stray far from TV thriller tropes, but often manages the unexpected.

I will look into that.

Have you tried Rumpole of the Bailey?

Yeah I know John Mortimer was a libERaL and all. But it's quite funny and wise to human nature, Leo McKern is great, the settings and costumes are v nice (when barristers still wore bowler hats!) and, especially in the earlier seasons, the cosiness factor is off the charts.

I know that my father is a real fan of that series but I've never watched it myself. Will keep it in mind!

I will check these out for sure, thank you for the suggestion. God bless Britain.

I have 3 children so by the time I've catered to their needs I'm broken and ready for bed so have little time to watch anything anymore..but I so enjoy reading about certain series you write about.. And I feel we are on such a similar page, despite me not watching the shows..

There is a good amount of nostalgia at play with my enjoyment of reading your words..

For those who dont know a Swiss physician Johannes Hofer published a medical treatise on Swiss soldiers abroad where he combined the Greek word nostos - homecoming-- and algia - pain..

And I do feel the pain with the world that is lost.. Having grown up in London in the 70s and left in the 80s..i do not recognise it at all..I'm the stranger!! And it saddens me so so much whilst being aware very little stays the same..

Keep up the amazing work you do.. Truly invaluable.. Thanks mate..

I now find myself unable to watch old British TV or films, because of the overwhelming grief I feel at seeing the country we have lost.

Yes, the old shows can get depressing. Especially if you're old enough to actually remember them.

Could not agree more.. Absolutely heartbreaking.. Tragic!
