Most people are unthinking followers of whatever the current trend is. It will always be so. They must be managed. Negative consequences for negative behaviour, positive reinforcement for positive behaviour. They don't have any real principles, don't bother trying to use reason. It is very heartening that negative consequences were applied in this instance.

My experience with having kids on public school for 18 years is that almost the the entire education system is midwit. Many teachera will get sick of the banality will leave and higher-ups are selected based on seniority, thus winnowing out all the intellect.
My kids lucked out and got a few good teachers who knew not to stick their necks out. Teachers pretty much can teach what they want since the kids' and parents' opinions aren't important and there's no video cameras or microphones in classrooms. Thus the non-woke literature teacher can get on with actually teaching ideas.
But these non-woke have to stay under the radar of the SJWs and not say a word against them or the whisper campaigns will start.
Note that the students are at the bottom of the school power hierarchy. In order of priority: admin, teachers, non-credentialed aides, support staff, parents, students.
The teachers all know that all they have to do is slow walk and stall any complaints for 6 years and the complaining families will graduate out.
Following orders is no defence, just ask those concentration guards and personnel, male and female who were tried and convicted during the Nuremberg Trials. Oh, wait, you can't, they were hanged. As they should have been. Those who enthusiastically follow orders are more than capable and willing of inflicting horrors upon others, and they always seem to enjoy targeting those unable to defend themselves, especially women and children, now why might that be? 🤔
There need to be consequences and they need to be vigorously enforced without fear or favour. Deterents only work, if they are applied asap and in public. People who will believe anything are capable of anything and are undeserving of the benefit of the doubt or compassion and mercy, as they tend to have none for others. They are a persistent and continuous existential threat to anyone and everyone who doesn't hold to their ideology. Reform can only happen to those who acknowledge and realise their errors and transgressions, and who genuinely feel remorse and horror at their beliefs and actions, and who genuinely seek to attone and seek redemption. Anything else is weakness, cowardice and relativism dressed up as false virtue. God forgives, in certain instance that process should be enabled.
Public schools are “free” babysitting. Our most precious commodity is easily transformed when left there day after day. It’s allowing the village idiots to raise your young. Public teacher is a lazy government job very difficult to be fired from.
